Every day all over the world you hear women talking about shoes. They talk about how much they love their shoes and how their life would not be complete without every single pair of shoes in their closet. Personally, I prefer to buy handbags. I am a sucker for designer handbags. I just cannot help myself, I love them. I adore Louis Vuitton but my favorites are Chloe handbags.

How long has it been since you used or even bought a can of hairspray? Have you even looked for it in the hair product aisle? I started thinking about this one day when I was frustrated with wispy hairs sticking out around my ponytail. I was completely baffled as to what might possibly work to keep those fly-away hairs down. Should I try gel? For one, I couldn’t think of where I may even have gel and for another, wouldn’t that just make my hair unnaturally shiny in spots and crusty feeling? Not the look I was going for! If I patted the hairs down with water, they’d inevitably dry and start flying around again. Then I remembered that, years ago, I’d had a travel size bottle of hairspray that seemed to work miracles in such cases. Holding the style in place but not leaving my hair sticky, crispy, or too glossy. As I started my search of old make-up and travel bags, digging through boxes of old hair products, it occurred to me that I should probably just pick up another bottle the next time I was at the store. I never did find my little emergency bottle of hairspray. And by the time I next got to the store, and started looking for hairspray, I couldn’t find what I wanted. I couldn’t even find the big old aluminum bottles of Aqua Net that used to be a staple in my parents’ bathroom closet. What gives? Were they banned? Is that what all the talk about CFCs was about? How many years, exactly, has it been since I used hairspray or heard anyone reference it? So you tell me: does anyone use hairspray any more or has it gone to the hair product graveyard?

Caring for delicate clothing is something that requires hands on and should not be delegated to the help or a laundry service, in either case, the risk of mishandling, damaging or otherwise deteriorating the garment is elevated and high quality garments can easily go over $200.

According to the color of the garment, the care could differ in terms of water temperature, drying, and even soap using. But this is exacerbated in the case of knitwear, since washing it in the washing machine with the rest of the laundry can cause the fabric to harden, get too loose or even create small balls of thread.

In the case of skirts, caring for them can be easier since they require a small space to be hand washed and laid down flat to dry; preferably in a shaded place where the sun does not fall directly on the garment, preventing damage to the thread and knit. In the case of dresses, caring for the garment should be done in the same manner.

Storing these garments must never be done hanging, the fabric will loosen and it will ruin the fall and presence of the piece; the right way to storage a garment is by folding it and keeping it in a dry, dark place. Humidity traps work great to prevent the formation of pests and the ruining of the garment.

If you’ve been watching any of the regular talk shows this week, you’ve probably caught one or more with lovely 29 year old Kate Hudson. Kate is, as always, acting and romancing a celebrity (currently rumored to be many-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong), but this time she’s making the rounds to promote something different—her hair care line.

Okay, so it’s not entirely hers. She and fab stylist-to-the-stars, David Babaii, have created a cruelty-free, eco-friendly line of hair care products. While touting her wares on “The View”, Elisabeth Hasselbeck commented that one product “smelled like vacation.” Not a bad side effect for a hair product!

David Babaii also commented that one ingredient—something made with lava ash—was light enough for styling that it wouldn’t leave hair feeling weighed down. This sounds like an excellent product for summer, when light is the key word!

Beautiful Kate not only helped with the creation of the hair care line, but she is starring in print ads, along with doing the promotional talk-show tour. She even went to Africa to shoot the campaign, which includes gorgeous shots of her sitting with lion cubs! Blondes really do have more fun, agreed?

Another pleasant side effect of Kate and David’s hair care line is that 10% of the proceeds will go to WildAid, an international wildlife conservation organization. So what do you think—worth checking out?

Some men think that they don’t ever have to change hair looks. They find a cut in junior high and stick with that for the next 20 or 40 years… or forever! And sometimes, there’s just no arguing with them about it because they think it’s too girly to change their hair.

But plenty of men do want to stay up-to-date in fashion, shoes, and hair trends. So this post is for them (or for the significant others who love them!). What are the latest and greatest hair trends for men in 2008?

This can vary widely, depending on the region where you live. In the Midwest, there seems to be a strong favor for extremes—either shaved bald or longer-than-average. The bald look is pretty self explanatory so no need to go too far into that other than to say, if you choose it, you better keep up with it. Head stubble is not sexy.

If you’re going for the longer hair look, there’s a lot more to take into consideration. Especially if a guy has had short hair for most of his life, there may be some surprises as to the shape and texture of a guy’s hair when it grows out a bit. It might start to curl a bit, which can be alarming at first. Or a cowlick may appear or become more pronounced, as the hair is growing out.

Long hair with a wave or curl can readily lend itself to a surfer or rock guy look. Long straight hair can look very punk or alternative, depending on if it’s long enough for a small ponytail.

Another way to wear longish hair for guys is to keep it a little bit longer on top than on the sides. With this look, you can use a hair product like a light gel or some sort of texturizing mud or spray to kind of make the top look “choppy.”

Most importantly, if you need help, ask for it!

Bangs are not something that I hear my friends talk about much in every day conversation. And from unscientific observation of, well, everyone I know, it seems you’re either “with” or “without.” For life. I, myself, used to be a bang girl. Then one day my mother declared that we were having my bangs cut off.

I don’t remember taking this particularly well. I’m not sure if it was in conjunction with getting my long hair lopped off, as well, but that was another traumatic childhood hair ordeal. However, once it was done and I got used to the new look, I pretty much never went back.

There do seem to be bang trends, however. The kind of heavy, straight, blunt bang look has been popular in the last year or two. The look has appeared on the multi-talented Zooey Deschanel, Christina Ricci, and Alyson Hannigan. Come to think of it, they’re all brunettes. But no matter. I’m fairly certain blonde Gwen Stefani has also sported the look.

Side-swept bangs are another look. It’s kind of an in-between look when your bangs are too long to hang on your face without covering your eyes, but not quite long enough to fit in well with the predominant length of your hair cut.

Obviously, if you’re at the beach this summer, getting into the water, lounging on the sand, and otherwise getting some sun, your hair will pick up the natural look of beach hair. Beach hair is that seemingly perfect combination of dirty, messy, highlighted locks that just looks sexy and fun!

The only problem is that not everyone wants to get into the water and spend the whole day at the beach just to get that look. After all, many people don’t even lay out anymore. The process takes so much longer than just getting oneself to the tanning beds!

So if you’re striving for that perfect beach hair look, what can you do at home? I’ve got some ideas to share with you so keep reading!

For starters, don’t wash your hair every day. Wash every other day or even every third day, if you can get away with it (I cannot, by the way!). This just adds a little more texture to your hair.

Add some highlights. Remember Sun-In? The stuff you spray on top of your head and then either sit in the sun or use a blow dryer? The heat is what is supposed to lighten the hair. I used to use that stuff every year when I was a pre-teen and a teen and I’m thinking about it again. I am so glad it’s still on the market!

Use a texturizing spray on dry hair. My favorite is John Frieda’s Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea Spray. I like the way the bottle looks, I love the way the light blue liquid looks in the bottle, I love the way it smells, and what it does to my hair. It’s especially fun to spray it on wet hair, then braid, and unbraid when dry and fluff with your fingers.

Every season sees its incarnation of the classic pony tail. Some times the pony is sleek, straight, and professional. Other times, there’s a sophisticated but controlled curl or wave that shines glamorously. So what’s the take on ponies for summer 2008? Read on!

This summer, tightly controlled, sleek tails are so passé. Think of a combination of beach, gym, picnics, and play—very casual, loose, and fun. Nicole Richie recently sported a great combination of milk braids (think Heidi or of milking maids with their side braids), tied together in a low, messy pony/bun combo. So summer perfect.

If you really can’t deal with total hair freedom for your pony, you can also take a combination approach that leaves the front sleek but the actual pony messy. You can even take a comb and “rat” that tail up a little bit. Just keep it restrained. We don’t need an 80s come back just yet. At least, I don’t!

If you have long bangs or can otherwise pull it off, leave some hair out of the pony so it frames your face. Not too much. We’re not going for a version of emo hair. We just want to soften the pony effect a bit.

Have fun trying some different ponies out this summer. Just don’t follow any rules to a “T” and you should be fine.
